"Ah, the game's been played, and well, I say—the Doctor won. They stole the day. Empire shattered, Death undone, and so the Fool thinks he has won."
But victory, he knew, was merely another move in an infinite game.
"But I, oh I, I never lose. I change the board, I twist the ruse. I snip the thread, I shuffle time—now watch him forget this final rhyme."
With theatrical flourish, he flicked a glowing pawn into a mirror. It vanished in a ripple of gold, taking with it the memory of horrors that should never be forgotten.
"The beast, the god, the deathly breath, the one who whispers silent death—I erase his tale, unmake the fight, so Doctor sleeps in false delight. No more memories of burning stars, no howling name, no ancient scars. Just silence now where dread once spoke—the mind is healed... the cosmos broke."
For a moment, the perpetual grin faltered. Even the Toymaker, master of games and chaos, felt the weight of what stirred in the deepest shadows of existence.
"But hush now, gods, don't laugh so loud, you Trickster kin, you whispering crowd. For something stirs beneath the void, and none of you will leave untoyed. He waits not bound by game or jest, he does not barter, boast, or rest. You gods of chaos, dance and jest—but he... he comes to end the rest."
The shadows thickened around him. A pulse echoed through the dimensional space, followed by a silence so profound that even the Toymaker seemed hushed by its weight. When he spoke again, his voice carried an uncharacteristic tremor.
"Reverie dreams in shards and gold, but soon he'll find his visions cold. Incensor weeps through flame and ash, but fire, too, will one day crash. The Trickster runs from cause and law—but he shall kneel when darkness gnaws."
The mirth drained from his ancient features as he leaned forward, his eyes reflecting terrors that predated the universe itself.
"We gods of Discord twist and play, but even chaos fears decay. Remember this: the sun will black—and all roads end when HE comes back."
The Toymaker vanished with a sound like reality tearing. A deck of cards fluttered down through the empty space, each one catching fire and burning to cinders without flame, their ashes spelling out words in languages that should not exist.
Meanwhile, in a blue box hurtling through the time vortex, the Doctor awakened from dreams he could not quite remember. Something felt missing, torn away like pages from a book. He reached for the thought—something vast, something that had filled him with a terror beyond description—but it slipped through his fingers like ash on the wind.
For just a moment, the TARDIS console screen flickered. A single word appeared: "WAITING."
Then it was gone, leaving only the gentle hum of the time machine and the echo of footsteps that belonged to no one aboard.
