A Teaspoon And An Open Mind: A Doctor Who Fan Fiction Archive

Although I am more than three years older than “Doctor Who” itself – though not than ‘himself’, despite the fact that some days it feels like it! – my ‘first’ Doctor was Tom Baker, who I met at the age of 16 when I won a competition to ‘Draw a Monster to Frighten Doctor Who’ with a meeting with him and Louise Jameson as the prize; the pencil portrait I had done of him has been adorned by his autograph ever since…

However, though I love all the incarnations of the Doctor for differing reasons (and now, Peter Capaldi…! (like him, as a 15-year-old I had a letter about “Doctor Who” printed in the Radio Times)), my primary allegiance is given to the Tenth Doctor, and it was he who motivated me to start writing fanfic. Thus I began to write the story arc you will find below, set in the time frame between ‘The Waters of Mars’ and ‘The End of Time’ (and even slightly beyond, as you will have realized if you’ve had the tenacity to plough through them all) – and for Jack Harkness, the interval between ‘Children of Earth’ and ‘Miracle Day’. I wanted to explore storylines and aspects of the Tenth Doctor’s situation that Russell T Davies and Steven Moffat and their respective teams (with a particular nod to Mark Gatiss, of course – how could I not?) might consider legitimate extrapolations of his story.

And I stubbornly maintain my view that David Tennant’s characterization of the Tenth Doctor, taken in conjunction with his entire body of work both on stage and on screens of both sizes, makes him a contender for the best actor not only of his own generation but quite conceivably a couple either side (and, yes, I’m aware that includes Olivier, Gielgud, Richardson, McKellen, and so on)!

When I’m not being ‘TheDoctorDeborah’, I’m Deborah Latham; I live in Taunton, Somerset, England, and have at time of writing been married for more than 36 years (and, moreover, to the same man throughout – how about that?!). But, like the rest of you, my ‘fictional’ heart belongs to the Doctor, and always will!

(Please note that all my stories here on 'Teaspoon' are also available on my own website in PDF format - with the occasional illustration added...)

Doctor Who and its accoutrements are the property of the BBC, and we obviously don't have any right to them. Any and all crossover characters belong to their respective creators. Alas no one makes any money from this site, and it's all done out of love for a cheap-looking sci-fi show. All fics are property of their individual authors. Archival at this site should not be taken to constitute automatic archive rights elsewhere, and authors should be contacted individually to arrange further archiving. Despite occasional claims otherwise, The Blessed St Lalla Ward is not officially recognised by the Catholic Church. Yet.
