They both sat in meatloaf-posture for a long time, meditating on his mind. Finally, one yawned and licked her white whiskers.

“He’s done more than looked at a king, hasn’t he?”

Yellow eyes glinted in her companion’s black face. “He always lands on his feet.”

“He was in Egypt... then. He knew them.

“And that business with the giant rat...”

“And his name..!

“Well. I’m convinced.”

The subject of their contemplation felt their silent eyes on him. He looked up, returned an equally knowing gaze.

The black one’s ear twitched. “Damndest looking Jellicle I ever set eyes on, though.”
