Endlessly clean, pointlessly bland.

So safe and so enclosed.

The elders feared them as they asked too many questions.

Scraped the surface of seeming perfection and found the shadows beneath.

They both hated the smug certainty of their fellows; their urge to run grew ever stronger.

They spoke of running away together, whispered secrets in the dark.

When the time came he was left stranded and alone.

His hearts withered and died, and he swore vengeance on his so-called friend.

From the moment the broken TARDIS left, The Master was born from hatred and betrayal.
