A few moments’ work with his sonic screwdriver and the noise cuts off. That’s better; now he can hear himself think.

Soon armed soldiers will be swarming through this office, and he’ll be waiting for them, because he’s here on a matter of some urgency. Since he can’t get hold of the Brigadier on the phone, he’ll have to visit in person.
