Author's Notes:
Seeing as it will be the New Year in a couple of days, and seeing I have very few ideas for anything else at the moment, this is my first fic for Donna. Enjoy.

The Doctor closes the TARDIS door softly as he steps out onto the wet pavement, as the cold rain makes its steady four-beat tune on concrete. He isn't even sure if it is four beats; it changes too frequently for him, amateur musician and all, to make out. But that's not why he's here. It's New Year's Day, and he has to visit an old friend.

He's on his way to see Donna Noble.

She's waited too long. And yet, she hasn't, because she wasn't the one who chose not to stay forever after all.

He finds the gate in front of her house soaked with rainwater, but what wouldn't be in this downpour? He is just as drenched as it is. He pushes it open and walks up to the door. He knocks four times, just because he shouldn't forget, must never forget what happened on that bad day.

And it is Donna who opens it, but it is not the same Donna he once knew. That one is gone. Forever.

"You need something, mate?" She eyes him suspiciously, as though she thinks he's some freak with a bowtie that goes around bothering people on New Year's Day. Well, he is a freak with a bowtie, but at least he's a cool freak, right?

"No, I'm all right. Turns out I just had the wrong address. Sorry."
