He had so little time to say goodbye. He had managed, of course. However, even a sun couldn’t power this miniscule crack between universes for so long. He had wanted to make this goodbye last forever; because if they couldn’t have it, they needed as close as possible.

The temptation was there–to say to hell with it, to give up trying, to lose himself in her embrace, to bring her back and live. Even if it would only be a little while before the universes folded down on themselves and they said goodbye again; but he couldn’t. No, he wouldn’t.
