His head hurts.

He opens his eyes, and the stinging light almost makes him shut them again. His frockcoat is practically shredded, and there’s a large hole burnt in the waistcoat. His shoes are tighter than they were five seconds ago, and he can’t feel curls around his face anymore. A hand flies up to his head, feeling crisp short hair where there had been unruly locks.

He sighs. Suppose it had to happen some time.

Someone is staring at him (with astonishment, he hopes). Oh well, better say something.

“I don’t suppose you have a mirror, do you?”
