Chapter 1: Breakfast
Author's Notes:

Ace woke up, grumbling. Her night’s sleep had been turbulent to say the least; they’d literally hit a pocket of turbulence in the Time Vortex, and the Doctor had told her to go back to bed when she went to ask what was happening. Overtired and not in the mood to argue, she agreed.

She softly padded out of her room, her socks cushioning her footsteps. Suddenly, she smelled something. It was a warm, delicious smell, wafting in from the depths of the TARDIS. Without thinking, she followed her nose, wandering down corridors she hadn’t seen before.

Ace found the source of the aroma as she walked into what looked like a futuristic kitchen, all chrome and silver, with multiple gadgets. The Doctor was stood at the hob, wearing an apron with his long curly hair tied back. She was so quiet that he didn’t even notice Ace was there until she said, “Professor?”

“Ace! Just in time, I’m making pancakes.”

“Pancakes? But you never cook.”

“Maybe I just fancied a change. I figured you could use a good breakfast after your rude awakening last night. Are you complaining?”

“No...” she replied, pulling herself up to sit on one of the counters. “Let’s see you do a flip then.”

“It’s been a few years since I’ve attempted this,” said the Doctor, shaking the pan in trepidation. Ace looked on, a large smile on her face. He gave the pan one mighty toss and the sticky, half-cooked batter flew into the air... and right on top of the Doctor’s head.

Ace nearly fell off the counter, she was laughing that hard.
