Wow. I love this story. It's so gut wrenching, sad, horrifying and amazing all at the same time. Right after destroying Gallifrey the one place the TARDIS takes the Doctor to is Alistair, the man he's known for a long time, the man who would understand the cost of war and the sacrifices the Doctor had to make. You can really tell how shocked, shaken, numbed and overwhelmed the Doctor is. I love their conversation. It's too bad that he didn't stay there with Alistair but it's so like him to leave and move on.
Author's Response: Thank you. I've always been struck by some seeming inconsistencies at the beginning of 9 - it isn't a new face, but he's never seen himself in the mirror? - and he plays at being so tough in his leather jacket ad he's so damaged. I wanted to write that conversation and needed someone he could talk about war honestly to. I'm glad it works for you too.
Interesting, thoughtful story. Thank you.
Author's Response: Glad you liked it :-)
