I only just read this and... thank you! I LOVE Wilf! He is such a wonderful creation, and you've captured him beautifully. This story is sweet and sad and funny and just perfect, and it was a delight to read.
This was so VERY well done. The time and effort you put into this really shows. The characterizations are so true I felt like I was watching this straight from the series, and I wish it had been. You’ve given needed closure to Wilf’s significant story in a very poignant and genuine way.
This bit of insightful introspection stuck with me especially:
Wilf sighed, as he realised that there was nothing he could have done that would have altered a thing. He could see now that the outcome was inevitable. He’d never believed in fate, but now it was obvious that this was always going to happen. It was always going to be him. He stared blankly into the flames for several minutes, before grudgingly accepting that there were bigger mysteries in the Universe than he could ever begin to understand.
Thank you for taking such time to share this truly unique and significant piece of the Whoniverse with us all! :)
Author's Response: Thank you so much! You have no idea how much you\'ve made my day! I\'m glad you thought it all fit in with the series so well. It\'s what I was aiming for. I really could hear their voices speaking and I was hoping everyone else could, too. Poor Wilf. Imagine being in that situation. What a heavy load to bear! He had to reach that conclusion, otherwise how could he have carried on? And he needed closure by knowing that Ten had successfully regenerated into Eleven. I am overwhelmed by receiving such a wonderful review from an accomplished writer like you! Thank you! :) :)
You already know how much I love this
There are simply not enough stories written about Wilf, and even less told from his perspective. You have done it so well, and I thank you for writing and posting this little jewel.
Love how you've captured Wilf's voice, and his struggle to pronounce 'Vinvocci' is just precious!
Wonderful, brilliant job, W. Finally Wilfred Mott has received the respect and accolades due him..
Author's Response: Thank you! I made sure I didn’t look for Wilf stories on purpose while I was writing so that I wouldn’t be influenced by others. I needn’t have worried, because when I looked for them after I finished this story, I couldn’t find one that looked at this subject matter! I’m so glad that you thought I had Wilf’s voice right. I could “hear” him as I was writing! It was easy to imagine him struggling with an unfamiliar alien word! :) :) Thanks again! Wilf’s story had to be told. He had a key part to play in the story and nobody else knew what he had been through.
I loved this. I too think Wilf is an unsung hero and you told his story very well. Loved the brief interaction between him and Eleven at the end. It was perfect.
Author's Response: Thank you very much! I enjoyed being able to tell Wilf\'s story from his perspective. It needed to be told. I planned on having Eleven appear from the beginning. I had to bring Wilf closure and peace of mind after all he’d been through.
