1: Chapter 1

Where has your fic been all my fandom life? By which I mean, this was perfect. I thought the tone was especially perfect with Jack. The hero in the heart of the conman. Oh my god.

First fic to bring me to actual tears. You hit all the right marks. I could see every line like it was really part of the episode.
So well done.

Author's Response: Wow, thank you!

Utterly beautiful. I love Jack's reactions to both the plaque and the Master, the Master's reaction to words describing feelings he can't truly understand but mostly I love how even then Rose gave the Doctor strength to do what needed to be done.

Author's Response: Thank you!

Oh goodness, this was so perfectly heart wrenching, it made me tear up a little. The "hero in the heart of the conman" was so touching; I think that was my favorite part.

You know how you read a story and you think it's good at the time, but then your brain keeps coming back to it when you're making dinner, or in the car, or at the shops? And you remember phrases and they get stuck, like really good lyrics? That's what this story is to me. I love the Master in this - perfectly menacing and gleeful, and scornful in the right places. I love Jack and his interactions with both the Master and the Doctor. And the Doctor! Oh man. The epitaph is perfect - too earnest by half, and picking up on all the things he loves in Rose, a way of hiding his feelings and her existence in a really blatant way, except for how there aren't meant to be any time lords left. I love the Master for saving it for a rainy day, and taunting the Doctor with going to the parallel world - I was really surprised that the Master didn't mention Rose more when he was torturing them both in the show, so seeing it here was awesome. The Doctor's reaction was perfect, as was the use of the wall between dimensions, etc.

Author's Response: Wow, thank you! What a marvelous review! And yes, I agree -- it seems like the Master would have used Rose as a way to hurt the Doctor since he clearly knew about her. And hey, a year\'s a long time, so perhaps he did. Thank you again for all the lovely analysis -- it really made my day! (BTW, I\'m a total fan of yours!)

Gorgeous.
I loved the, "Rose Tyler is alive" bit, an how he was happy she was safe.
Great job!

Wow just wow. I could see the Master doing this too. I have to agree with who_in_whoville's review - Rose is the name that keeps him fighting to I could see it fortifying his resolve. This was very well done!

Author's Response: Thank you! I\'m glad it came out OK...I haven\'t done a lot of stuff with Season 3.

I love the idea that what the Master meant to break him only made him stronger. "that's the name that keeps me fighting."

Author's Response: Ooh, thanks! Lol, would you believe that I didn\'t even think of that line? It sure fits, though.

Oh, this is PERFECT. It was touching but not overly sentimental. The Master's and Jack's behavior was spot-on, and the Doctor...only the Year That Never Was could turn something so horrible (that wall) into something wonderful.

And the title fits beautifully. Brilliant job. I love this.

Author's Response: Thanks! I\'ve never written the Master before -- I\'m glad he came out OK.
