This is simply one of the best Four/Sarah pieces I've ever read. You've nailed their voices, and the striking, unfrilled prose style you use fits the bleakness of the setting while also illuminating/highlighting the moments of warmth between them. Also, kudos for involving more senses than sight in the descriptions; that really made the scenes come alive.
I am a little confused by what's going on at the end, though. Are they leaving the 1940s? Were they just waiting for the TARDIS like in 'Revenge of the Cybermen?'

Lovely! I love the spare, careful prose, and how the story becomes more and more complex the more carefully you look at it. And both the Doctor and Sarah sound spot-on here. Nice work!
this is favourited, because, for being so sparse it is also very complex and it's fresh and it's deep and it's completely them. I've read it three times now since you've posted, and have the feeling that this is one of those fics I'll be coming back to again and again later on.
