Two quotes that come to mind "Everyone deserves a chance to fly...and if I'm flying solo, at least I'm flying free..." from Wicked, and "I'm a leaf on the wind," from Firefly. The TARDIS doesn't get enough realization from fans, and it's great to see that changing, post Doctor's Wife.

“He was obstinate; she was ornery.”

I have never seen that relationship so succintly put before. That’s perfect. Brilliant!

Interesting to me because a long time ago I wrote a story that would fit with this in which the Doctor escaped Gallafrey in a TARDIS scheduled for destruction by talking to it and persuading it to override its programming and open the doors. So you and I are on the same waveleangth. :)

Heck of a love story.

The one companion that would never leave him.

And he's right. You pilot machines. You fly TARDISes.

You let their relationship develop over time from mutual need but distrust to almost a soulmate sort of relationship. (I'm still convinced that in The Daleks, she was trying to kill the Doctor by delaying that radiation alarm.) But as time went on, how could either exist without the other? The Doctor and the TARDIS. Two of a kind in a universe that has nothing even close.

Very nicely done - I love the picture you paint of the two of them, running for the stars together from Gallifrey.

Awww...I love it! Your story expresses sentiment without lapsing into sentimentality. :)
