1: Chapter 1: Fire

I know I'm waaaaay behind on this but this story moved me to the point that I felt I needed to leave a review. Here's hoping you see it! I've been a Doctor Who fan since the show came back and have since started watching all the Classic Who episodes. I just got into the Big Finish audios and like you say in your bio, the rest is history lol. Eight and Charley are the perfect ship and I'm 100% convinced that they belong together. Your story was absolutely amazing and (I mean this in the best possible way) completely heartbreaking. There are two parts in this story that I just balled, I mean flat out sobbing. To find a person who can write emotional depth like that is incredibly rare. I think this premise is totally plausible and it could fit neatly within the cannon (I've never liked the War Doctor lol). I'm still reeling a bit from the emotional punch the ending had. Thank you so much for sharing your gift with the fandom. Eight/Charley stories are hard to find and this one is pure gold.

Wonderful story - love they way you wove the themes between WWII and the Time War.

22: Epilogue

A sad, complicated story with a SERIOUS amount of depth and thought put into working out how the Doctor and Charley could meet again and the role Charley played in the crucial moment of the Time War; congratulations!

A moving reunion, a final showdown, and a last, tragic parting from each other; everything such an exceptional Doctor/Companion team required for a story looking at the darkest moment of the Doctor's lives; congratulations!

(Oh, and nice touch with the addition of the Eighth Doctor's regeneration; I sometimes feel like I'm the only person who's done anything to deal with that particular missing moment in the show's history)

Author's Response: Thank you so much!

I overheard a couple of people speaking favorably about your stories while at Chicago-TARDIS last year, and decided to check you out.

And I'm not disappointed. I'm still new to the world of Eight and Charley, but this story was easy enough to follow. I enjoyed the mystery, and I love how you worked the Time War into the BF continuity.

Fantastic story!

Author's Response: Really? People were talking about me? *blushes* Seriously, you just made my day, and now I want to hear more about Chicago TARDIS! I was *so* bummed that I couldn\'t be there. I\'m afraid this story contains a good amount of spoilers if you haven\'t gotten through all the Charley audios, but I\'m so glad you enjoyed it - and the audios - nonetheless. Thanks so much for reading and commenting!

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I must urge you, though - don't just look for Charley fics - listen to the Big Finish audios! It's through these that I got to be the huge Eight fan that I am; they are really, really fabulous.

The 8th Doctor was my first - I was a kid when the DW movie came out. So I've always loved Paul McGann, and it kills me that he never got more screen time, because he's just such an incredible incarnation of the Doc >.< I just yesterday bought the second season of the 8th Doctor with Lucie Miller as his companion. I'm SO completely addicted to the sound of Paul McGann's voice! ::melts:: The conversion rate from GBP to AUD just about kills me, but it's totally worth it! It will take me a while, but my aim is to own every audio adventure narrated by McGann. I'm so glad to hear that you love them too!! :o)

Oh, WOW. This was incredible! I found it completely by accident, and then couldn't stop reading - I finished it all in one night! Now I'm sorry I finished it so quickly; I'm going to go back to the beginning and read it through again. Really and truly wonderful :o)

Charley isn't a character I've had a lot of contact with, in fact, I think this is must be the first story with her I've read. But I'm a massive 8th Doctor fan, and I think you got him down just so. For every line he spoke, I could hear his voice in my head, and it was really quite exciting! Wonderful dialogue, beautifully executed. You've certainly convinced me to start seeking out more Charley fics!

::adds to faves:: Thank you for posting this for us to enjoy! Loved it.

Absolutely fantastic. I love how you tied Rose to Charley, especially given how the character was a pretty blatant ripoff of her in the first place! Overall this has been by far one of the best Who fics I've ever read. So dark, and poignant, and visceral all the way through. I feel like I've lived through the Time War, and I feel like Eight has finally been given a worthy death-and-rebirth.

Author's Response: Oh, thank you so very much, your comments put a huge smile on my face as I was reading them. I\'ve toyed with the similarities between Rose and Charley in a few other ways, though nothing that\'s ever been posted here.

2: Chapter 2: Shadows

I am ashamed to admit that I have been ignoring this fic. I dont normally do the 8th Doctor and didn't think this would be of any interest. OMG how wrong could I have been?! And your writing style is exquisite. Every word. It's like poetry.

Author's Response: Oh, wow, thank you, that\'s incredibly flattering! I hope you\'ll stick with it and read the whole story - and if you like it (or even if you don\'t) please let me know your thoughts!

22: Epilogue

I'm afraid I'm horrible at coherent reviews, but I read it, I loved it, well done.

Author's Response: Yeah, I usually have a hard time writing reviews too, so I appreciate your comment that much more, thank you for reading and commenting!

22: Epilogue

I pronounce this an "emotional mugging." Bravo. Terrific story, well crafted, well balanced and a brilliant Eighth Doctor and Charley story all round. Again, I think you gave Charley a great bow out, (will be interested to see how Big Finish do it in the 3-part Charley Finale). I also loved the tiny line about the Doctor and Charley having other times and places and the ninth Doctor remember remembering an echo of a friend. Great stuff. Thanks very much and please write more Eight-worthy works. :D Cheers, Jamie.

Author's Response: I\'ll thank you once again for your patience and all the comments you\'ve provided, I truly appreciate it. Oh, and I\'m starting to map out my next story, which will involve Ten as well as Eight - but before then I have a oneshot that\'s about ready for posting, which was written entirely for the purpose of providing comic relief after this angst-fest of a story. ;-)

21: Chapter 21: Motion

What a lovely poignant way for Charley to bow out, but very sad, sad, sad. Almost worse than death in a way. Loved your regeneration, and nice to know that someone approaches me on the Big Finish Junkie scales lol. A marvellous chapter. Cheers, Jamie.

Author's Response: My original concept was for her to die. It\'s funny, because I didn\'t work out the details of the final showdown, really, until it was time to actually write it. And now it all seems so logical and natural the way I ended up doing it and I\'m really happy with how it turned out, but it took a LOT of effort to sort it all out in my head before writing it. I agree, it\'s really worse than death in many ways.

Author's Response: Oh - and as for being a BF junkie - I\'m nothing compared to my husband. Alas, BF has not made a penny off of me; my husband has been collecting the audios since the day they started coming out, so when I got interested in them, all I had to do was ask him which shelf to look for the CDs on. I\'ve listened to a few of the Five, Six and Seven audios, but I\'m really mainly an Eight fan.

20: Chapter 20: Erosion

A real maelstorm of emotions. Very beautiful and very in keeping with the likes of Zagreus and Scherzo in the "emotionally raw" stakes. You should be especially proud of this chapter. Cheers, James.

Author's Response: Like I said below, I was a little afraid that parts of this chapter were over the top, but my beta encouraged me to go with it, and based on comments here, I\'m very glad I did.

22: Epilogue

I kept tearing up through the last chapter and the epilogue *stern look* You have seriously depleted my kleenex stores.

But this is the right ending. It works for Nine, for Charley, for everything that comes after. A bit of new hope out of the ash. This story is so beautiful. So very, very beautiful. And now I'm sad, because I won't be finding any more updates from it, brightening my day whenever they come. But it is the right ending.

Thanks for writing, and persevering, and sharing this. It's been a very good read.

Author's Response: You know, the epilogue wasn\'t part of my original concept of the story - it was one of those ideas that came knocking in my mind about midway through and I couldn\'t stop thinking about it till I finally put something down on paper. But I still had some reservations about it because it changes the tone of the ending *so* dramatically, from tragic to a glimmer of hope. But once again, my beta encouraged me to go with it, so I\'m glad to hear that it works. Thanks again SO much for your patience and all your comments, I really appreciate it.

20: Chapter 20: Erosion

Like the review before me mentioned, shades of Zagreus. This is extraodrinarily powerful. I can't tell if he's regenerated by this point or not, but it /doesn't matter/ because the pain he's going through is HIS, not specific to one body or another. My one human heart breaks for him, and poor, poor Charley.

Author's Response: Thank you so much! You know, I was a little afraid that bits of this chapter would be over the top - particularly the part where he takes a swing at her. This *is* the Doctor, after all; we still need to be emotionally invested in him so he can\'t be too horrible. But I expressed my concerns to my beta and she encouraged me to keep it in there, so I\'m glad that it works as it is.

Author's Response: PS - no, he hasn\'t regenerated.
