Nicely written. I always wish there had been more time to explore the characters like this in the show.
You manage to make this pairing very believable, and craft an intriguing look in their psyches after such a traumatic event. And that final line...WHAM. Solid and strong and uncompromising and it just ties the whole thing together.
Re-reading this, one line stuck out to me:
""It's always the women," she says, "they always make us do the difficult things."
So true and so elegantly written.
You have true talent.
Well done. It is how I feel Martha would handle things. Very sad though and I'm glad you touched on Martha's feelings as a Doctor performing this procedure, as her creed is to "Do no harm".
Gorgeous little ficlet, and so sad.
I love this fic. I love the idea behind it and quiet, tranquil feel to it.
(You're in Calufrax, by the way.)
Wow. Just... wow.
"We won't tell the Doctor," says Lucy, momentarily wise. and the extra touch of strange provided by "her concern for her patient is overlaid by the worry of what if it won't die? " are proof that I'm reading one of your stories.
An intriguing piece, and I suspect you are one of the few whofic writers I know of who could pull it off.
