1: Chapter 1

I found this story so long after it was written that you are unlikely to see this review. Oh well. I just wanted to say that I am a US expat living in (and now a citizen of) Australia. Until I was 14, I lived in NJ, very close to Philadelphia. Then I moved to Washington State, then I moved here to Oz. One of the things I miss more than anything are Philly Cheesesteaks. I missed them a bit when I was in Washington but I could sometimes get an ok-ish one there. Here ... well, it's impossible. Your fic? Literally made my mouth water. You nailed the description perfectly and made me crave cheesesteaks like I haven't craved them in ages. If only it were possible to mail a cheesesteak to Australia ...

That was great! Felt very natural for the Doctor and Rose to stumble onto something historic. Not to mention its just nice to see them not run for their lives for once. ;)

Do you mean to tell me that they don't have cheesesteaks in England? For serious? I'm going to have to reconsider my evaluation of the entire UK now. Also, whether Philly has the only good cheesesteaks around is a matter of opinion. :-p In Maryland, they can be quite delicious, and I prefer a few slices of American over Cheez Whiz any day. (Plus lettuce, mayo, and fried onions. Oh hell, I want a cheesesteak now.)

Oh right, the story! Very nice. Especially when Rose tells the Doctor to stop being such an Imperialist (if not in so many words). :-p

Author's Response: I do believe, based on my extensive reading, that cheesesteaks are a Mid-Atlantic thing, concentrated around Philly. You can get them outside of the city, but the farther away, the less \"authentic\" they are. But what do I know--I didn\'t grow in Philly either. :-) And you\'re in Maryland? Me too! I\'m so happy you enjoyed the story--thanks for the review!

Mmmm! I loved reading about Philadelphia! I've only been on the Jersey side, never in Philly itself. (Though I have seen the movie by the same name with Denzel... Hmmm ;)

Anyway -- let's quickly talk about what's spectacular about this one-shot... I normally would go on about how you got Ten down to a T -- you did. I enjoyed it. But what I really want to brush on is that what you did with Rose, and how you had her in this story -- that was dynamite. I liked her acceptance of the situation with the Doctor. I like her taking it in stride, and I certainly like her lack of the want for domestic. This is how I see Rose in season two -- she tested the waters a little bit with her pissing match in School Reunion, got shot down, and under no uncertain terms (in her mind -- not to the viewer, I think) was told how it was going to be in GITF. She def. backs off. I know you set this to be after Tooth & Claw, and I think she's definitely learned to accept this new, new Doctor by then, too. They're so comfortable with each other, and you know that has to come from a level of acceptance on Rose's part. You did a great job with this, dettiot. I really, truly enjoyed it.
