|I've never really been into a show like I am with Doctor Who. I mean, I do love Star Wars and Star Trek; but they do not seem to hold the same as it does with Doctor Who. I love the adventures, the time travel, and the various story arcs that are developed each series or a cumulative arc that spanned a couple of series. I'm a history nut; so the episodes that deal with historical events tend to be my favorites.|
I am not much of a romantic person; so if I read something that has romance in it, I want it to be real. That goes with what I see on TV. I personally do not like romance being the main plot point. It's okay as a subplot; but not the main one. Now there are some relationships I do not support - mainly Doctor/Rose. I'm sorry to all the shippers out there, but I do not see that as a healthy relationship. Honestly, I liked Rose in Series 1 - she was great! But when Nine regenerated into Ten, something happened I did not like. She became more obsessed and possessive (School Reunion, anyone?). I will admit that she had a few good episodes (The Girl in the Fireplace, The Satan Pit); but she seemed to have become more dependent on the Doctor towards the end of her run. And when she came back in Series 4, it seemed as if she reversed back a few years. I mean, I still haven't quite figured out when she started using the Dimension Cannon, but why did she build it in the first place?! And then she seemed to not come up with any ideas of her own except "find the Doctor". At least the others had plans, albeit not very good ones. So, you can probably tell I am not a Rose fan. Though I will read Rose stories that are well-written and do not put her on a pedestal. And I will read Doctor/Rose if it is not too overbearing.
My favorite companion in the new series is actually Donna Noble. I enjoyed her fiesty personality and the way she was able to bring the Doctor back to reality when he needed it. She was a good balance for him, a best friend. I definitely see their relationship as platonic, though I do read Doctor/Donna stories if they are realistic. I hate what RTD did to her in Journey's End; so I enjoy reading fix-it stories that enables our Super Temp to continue on as she became. She grew over the course of the series. She became more confident of herself that it was wonderful to see. And the RTD ruined it. Shame on him!
But I think the companion that I most identify with is Clara Oswald. She is smart, spunky, and stubborn; and most importantly - at least to me - she was willing to speak her mind. Yes, I know that Rose did the same thing; but with Clara, she is not trying to show anyone up. She accepts people more than Rose did in the end. And she was willing to sacrifice herself to save the universe. And she cares for the Doctor like a sibling, more than I have seen since Donna.
The Ninth Doctor is my Doctor. I do have a soft spot for Eight, War Doctor,Ten and Eleven; but it will always be Nine for me. I just can't write him - no idea why.
Ships I Support: Doctor (any)/Time Lady OFC, Doctor (any)/Romana (any), Amy/Rory, Jack/River, Ten/Martha
Favorite Companions (in no particular order): Clara Oswald, Romana, River Song, Donna Noble, Jack Harkness, Martha Jones
About Original Female Character(s) - also called OFCs: I love them. I know many despise them because they can be Mary Sues and I don't like Mary Sues either. But there is a lot of OFCs out there that are very well-written. I say give them a chance.
