|Most of my experience is with the new series (but I\'m very committed to keeping to overall canon, so I\'m trying to learn as much as I can about the older versions). My first experience with the Doctor was catching an episode of \"The Empty Child\" while in London for a month. Considering I\'m a sucker for WWII, there was no better episode to get me interested, and boy, did it work! |
Plus, cliffhanger ending.
So I eagerly looked for the next episode to air, and when it showed, I was ready for it.
Only...it was a different Doctor, a different time period, a different companion, and NOTHING familiar. I thought I recognized Captain Jack, but I wasn\'t entirely sure, and I wasn\'t even certain that I was watching Doctor Who at all. I gave up after half an hour.
(Incidentally, I\'d landed on \"The Sound of Drums\". BIG change, much confusion.)
Upon returning home to the U.S., I ordered the first season with Christopher Eccleston from NetFlix, and promptly was hooked. When \"The Empty Child\" arrived, I bounced so hard on the couch I nearly fell off.
CE is my first Doctor, but I\'ve got a soft spot for David Tennant. Plus, my husband seems to channel Ten\'s exuberance and gob, so I find him lots easier to write. I have a baby son, Andrew, but I\'ve decided his First Doctor will be the Eleventh Doctor. Just makes sense, you know? New Baby, New Doctor. I like the symmetry! :)
