|Bertram Gibbs (or ‘Bert’, if you prefer, or ‘Mr. Gibbs’, which he prefers), grew up in the Bronx, New York with four constants running through his life: reading, writing, movies and sarcasm; all of which honed a vivid and somewhat cinematic imagination. |
Growing up in a semi-theatrical family; his grandmother a former chorus girl, his grandfather a former jazz drummer, and his mother going to every movie and Broadway show available (she had crippling stage fright and this was her only outlet), he was never without a story or a tale to tell.
Between the age of 15 and 25, he worked as an actor and did a few off-Broadway shows, made one appearance on a PBS television production, performed with the Metropolitan Opera, performed for the Mayor of New York at Gracie Mansion, performed for the Chinese government at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, and was an extra in the 1976 film ‘King Kong’. After finding his theatrical career stagnant, he worked for the Metropolitan Museum of Art as a greeter and coordinated the Degas and O’Keefe exhibitions, was part of the Army Reserves for several years (where, much to the dismay of the military, it was found that there were no regulations against biting sarcasm), and ended working in the credit and collections field (do not look for a linear correlation – you won’t find any). But all the while to keep himself sane (or a reasonable facsimile thereof), he wrote fiction.
Aside from ‘Reflection from the Abyss’ he is the writer of ‘Formally Known As . . .’ - an irreverent take on the super-hero genre, the novella, \'The Stuff That Dreams Are Made Of \', which appears on The Cliffhangers Case Files site (http://www.cliffhangercasefiles.com/dreams.html), and fan fiction novellas, \'Justice League International: The Return of BWAH-HAH-HA!\', \'Justice Society of America: Cinemania\', \'Batman: For You\', \'World’s Finest: Just Another Mutha-$%@&!-ing Team-Up Story\', and \'Justice Society of America: Image\' on the JLU2001 Fan Fiction Project (http://www.carnaj.com/JLU2001/).
Aside from being a film, television, and comic book historian, Mr. Gibbs studies forensic psychology and enjoys the contradiction of being a ‘humble egoist’. He lives in a hidden fortified bunker somewhere in the United States with his thirteen year old daughter. The bunker is surrounded by an electrified underground moat, tripwire-activated trapdoors, a vast assortment of booby traps, and is guarded by armed accountants, large dogs, rabid gerbils, and said daughter.
