I've been writing in fandom almost since I first found it about a decade ago.
I'm brand new to Who, though, having gone 0 to 60 -- "Uh, isn't that one of those old Brit shows, with a guy in a scarf or something?" to "complete addict, pimping out 20+ complete sets of the BBC files to friends of friends of friends I've never met and never will meet" -- in about a week late last summer.
Unfortunately, that set me up for a nasty surprise, seeing how as I'd heard the show was renewed for a second series already. That major cast changes could seamlessly accompany this fact was not something I had ever even considered. Basically, I learned about the concept of 'regeneration' about half an hour before Rose did. Ow.
I'm enjoying Ten surprisingly well, considering my reflexive resentment of him not being Nine and my very low tolerance of "ferret on speed" manic personalities to begin with.
But Nine -- if not The Doctor I'd thought he was -- will always be my Doctor. And in my head he still lingers with Jack and Rose in that happy space between "The Doctor Dances" and "Boomtown", when the possibilities were just endless....
