1. Chapter 1: Camping! by LN29 [Reviews - 3] (1216 words)
Hi! I'm back, and hopefully my writer's block is gone for good. It's been a long time since I posted a new story in this series, but here it is! Hope you like it! Like most of my other stories, it can also stand alone, though for anyone who has been reading the series, this comes after 'Be Brave, Little One,' so Alec and Marissa are in a relationship. (That's also the story that 'the compound' is from)

One more thing: I've gotten some questions as to what my characters look like, especially the Twelfth Doctor. This story contains some references to their appearances, as do some of the others, but it might help if I just put all their descriptions in one place, right off the bat. So here you go.

The Twelfth Doctor is tall, and looks about 35 years old. He's got dark hair, almost black, which is about the length and style than the Tenth Doctor's hair was in his first few episodes, before it got all "sticky-uppy" as Wilf put it. His eyes are dark, dark brown, and expressive, but also slightly alien, like all the Doctors'. He's got decent features, and a very kind smile. His typical outfit isn't very distinctive, closer to the ninth Doctor's than anyone elses, but it's a bit nicer. Dark trousers, a plain pull-over shirt (usually a nice T-shirt), and a brown jacket. And black trainers.

Marissa is currently 17, but she looks younger than that. She's small and slight, but not so that she looks weak. She isn't exceptionally pretty, but she's not unattractive either. Her hair is dark brown, lighter than the Doctor's, and about shoulder length. Her eyes are dark brown too, and extremely expressive. She's got a large scar on her left shoulder and chest, from an injury sustained early on in her travels with the Doctor, but it's only barely visible above the neckline of a shirt.

Alec's tall, though not quite as tall as the Doctor. He's eighteen, and looks about his age, maybe a little younger, but not much. He is, as Marissa says when she first meets him, "fairly handsome, as boys go." He's got light brown hair which nearly hangs in his eyes, and green eyes. His face is very expressive of what he's thinking.

Well, there you go. Sorry about my rambling. Dunno if anyone actually wanted to know any of that, or cared, but if you did, there you go. Enjoy the story!

2. Chapter 2: Exploration by LN29 [Reviews - 0] (1209 words)
The Doctor's reflection on stars was so much fun to write. I don't have the characters wax philosophical much in this series, compared to some of my others, so it was fun to do.

Trying to give Twelve a unique voice is one of my most challenging tasks, though his dialogue pretty much writes itself. He's definitely developed since I started writing him. Trying to keep elements of past Doctors, while also introducing newer traits...making him my own character, yet still clearly the Doctor. I kind of think of him as a combination of Eight and Ten (without quite as much chatter). Words are still his weapons, but he chooses them carefully, as opposed to rattling off whatever is in his head and simultaneously bringing down the enemy.

Also, as a present to my mother, who hates angst and danger, two whole chapters of peace and simple companionship before the action gets started. :)

3. Chapter 3: Something's Wrong by LN29 [Reviews - 0] (1522 words)
Aaaand we're off with the action!

4. Chapter 4: Damon by LN29 [Reviews - 0] (1929 words)

5. Chapter 5: An Upgrade by LN29 [Reviews - 0] (1835 words)
What was that I said about Twelve not being as chatty as Ten? Well, actually, he still isn't, but he definately can talk, when the situation requires it. I like to think of Twelve as using each word as a carefully chosen weapon, a means to an end. As opposed to Ten, who used words as a shield, to mask what he was really doing. Twelve is much more introspective and intuitive than some of his previous incarnations, thinking about almost every action and word before he does them. He still makes things up as he goes along, but he's not so reckless as some of the others. In my mind, he's finally growing up a little.

Also, this chapter, and the previous one, were the first things I wrote for this story, for some reason. And this is one of my favorite chapters that I've ever written! And I don't really know why. :)

6. Chapter 6: A New Host by LN29 [Reviews - 0] (1204 words)
From bad to worse...as usual.

7. Chapter 7: Alone by LN29 [Reviews - 0] (1751 words)
A cameo from a banana. Couldn't resist. I love the idea of the Doctor's 'bigger-on-the-inside' pockets (and thanks to "The Runaway Bride," it's canon. YAY!), and so I thought it'd be funny to address just how much is in there. This seemed the right place to do it...it seemed like a natural thing for Damon to do. If you had access to his bigger-on-the-inside pockets, wouldn't you empty them out, just out of curiosity? I would. Thus, I had Damon do it.

8. Chapter 8: True Colors by LN29 [Reviews - 0] (1466 words)
Damon proves just how horrible he can be. And the Doctor (sort of) fires a gun.

9. Chapter 9: Human Emotion by LN29 [Reviews - 0] (1427 words)
Marissa gets a hold of herself. I'm trying to balance her reactions, trying to keep her realistic, not "super-human" in her courage or intelligence. I mean, this would be terrifying to experience. However, I don't want her to be pathetic either. Sh'e a smart, brave young woman who has been travelling with the Doctor for a year now. She's strong enough to get through this...she just has to realize it. I hope I keep her realistic.

10. Chapter 10: Awake by LN29 [Reviews - 0] (1997 words)
Poor Alec. He's really been sidelined for this story, hasn't he? But at least he's awake now.

11. Chapter 11: A Fatal Mistake by LN29 [Reviews - 0] (1699 words)
Damon missteps, Marissa puts some pieces together, and she gets a surprising conclusion. They haven't lost this fight yet!

12. Chapter 12: Running out of Time by LN29 [Reviews - 0] (1515 words)

13. Chapter 13: Last Chance by LN29 [Reviews - 0] (1712 words)
Marissa so seldom gets to be a complete brat, so the last part of this chapter was really fun to write. And satisfying.

14. Chapter 14: Rage and Light by LN29 [Reviews - 0] (1079 words)
What's the one thing that will anger the Doctor more than anything else? One of his companions being hurt.

And yay for a reference to my first ever fic! We've come a long way...

15. Chapter 15: Together Again by LN29 [Reviews - 0] (1625 words)
Yay! I finished it!!! Sorry, I'm just very happy about this.
