Syntax of Things by ClocketPatch [Reviews - 49] Printer Chapter or Story

1. Episode One by ClocketPatch [Reviews - 10] (3233 words)
It’s taken me nearly two years to write this and I’m both extremely proud of it and extremely nervous about it –

Proud, because it’s the longest complete story I’ve written in a long while (complete, being the key word here). There was a lot of help that went into it though, so shout outs are in order:

1. I had extremely good source material to base it on. Hex belongs to Big Finish, not me (buy their CDs!). The Doctor and Ace belong to the BBC. I’m just shuffling around in their sandboxes and I thank them kindly for not suing me.

2. I had some extremely good helpers and beta-readers assisting me every step along the way: I want to thank ann_blue, without whom this probably never would have been written. She proof-read the initial draft, helped me work out the plot, and kicked me soundly every time I tried to give up. JJPOR, who gave me advice on Liverpool dialect. Ponygirl, who kindly gave me some back story on Hex that I wasn’t aware of. And, most of all, vvj5, who painstakingly edited the final edition of this behemoth. For her my gratitude is undying.

I’m nervous, because I’m not sure the finished product lives up to all of the support that’s been put into it, and also because it is based on a real country and, to some extent, the people I met there. I hope I’ve done them, and the culture they represent, justice, because I have in my heart only the deepest respect for the people of Belize. Any errors, archaeological, historical, political, geographical, or other, are solely my fault. (Though, I did twist a few things a bit for plot reasons.)

Oh, and I apologize in advance for the angsty potty-mouthed OC. He isn’t based on anyone, I want to make that clear. He was just ridiculously fun to write.

Anyway, this author’s note is turning into an Oscar acceptance speech or something, so I’ll stop now and let you read the story.

That's it. A wrap. Thank you again to everyone who supported me with this, and also to all of you readers who left such lovely reviews. I hope you didn't find the conclusion too rushed after all that build-up. Also, I hope that you enjoyed reading as much as I did writing. Cheers!
