Donna can't help eying the table as she enters the dining-room.

The empty vase tells her everything she needs to know.

But she's surprised at the way her heart sinks.

She silently fills the jug on the table as the Doctor returns to the kitchen to check his cooking.

It isn't until he leaves that she lets herself understand how much she wants him to propose.

A bitter sense of disappointment fills her as she follows him into the kitchen, and she blinks away the hot, ridiculous, unreasonable tears in her eyes.

But she stops in the doorway, staring at the Doctor, who is down on one knee, the ring gleaming between his fingers.

“I know you saw my handiwork earlier,” he says, adding, “And this had to be a surprise.”

He straightens, taking her left hand in his free one, his voice a whisper as he slides the gold band onto her fourth finger

“Marry me, Donna.

Her eyes fill with tears again, but, as she kisses him, she doesn't bother to blink them away.
