Ianto wandered absent-mindedly around the Hub, picking up various assortments of junk and the odd coffee cup, watching the rest of the team. Tosh and Jack were in Jack’s office, discussing an alien artefact that fell through the rift last week and Gwen was flicking through a magazine on the couch. Owen was sitting on the autopsy table, re-stitching his hand. Ianto chewed his lip. It was quite disturbing watching a man sew up his own hand with no emotion on his face. He inhaled and strolled up to him. “You alright?” he asked pleasantly, collecting rubbish as he spoke. Owen looked up, his eyebrow raised. Ianto smiled sheepishly. “No, I’m sorry. Stupid question.” He snorted and went back to stitching up the cut. Ianto stood there awkwardly for a bit before retreating. Suddenly: “I just want to feel human again.” It was said so quietly Ianto wasn’t sure he’d heard it. He turned around to find Owen staring at him, his hand forgotten. Ianto sighed. “I know. I’m sorry, really I am.” Owen snorted again and pushed himself off the autopsy table. “No you’re not,” he smirked, advancing towards Ianto, “You don’t even know why you’re sorry.” Another step forward. Ianto swallowed nervously and tried backing away, but collided with the wall. “I just want to feel something. Not just pain.” The young doctor picked up a scalpel and grinned manically. “Owen, please-” “I don’t feel pain like you feel, of course. Not like this.” His hand darted out and grabbed Ianto’s wrist, forcing it up, palm facing towards the ceiling. Ianto struggled, trying to pull his hand out of Owens tight grip. “Don’t, please. Let go.” Owen’s eyes glimmered with madness as he placed the blade on Ianto’s skin. He drew it across; slicing a line of dark red blood. Ianto hissed with pain. “Does it hurt, Jones? I hope it does. Oh dear God, I hope it’s painful.” "You’re crazy,” Ianto whispered, shaking his head as he watched his blood blossom and seep down his wrist. Owen laughed, an edge of hysteria on his voice. “No, this is crazy!” he cackled and he squeezed. Ianto gasped and tried to snatch his hand back. Droplets of blood dribbled down onto Owens wrist. He blinked in confusion. Ianto stopped struggling. “Please,” he breathed, curling his fingers into a fist. Owen looked up, his dark eyes shining and his mouth slightly open in shock. He dropped Ianto’s wrist as if it was on fire and backed away, crashing into the autopsy table. Ianto took this moment to run. He dashed across the Hub and into the lift, cradling his injured hand. Gwen blinked in surprise. “Owen?” she called, frowning. Jack poked his head out of his office door. “What happened?” he mouthed. She shrugged, biting her lip. Jack strode towards the Autopsy bay to find Owen scrubbing his hand frantically. “You ok?” he asked, tilting head to one side. Owen jumped and whipped round. He grinned nervously. “Fine, fine. I just dropped a vial of blood, that’s all,” he said, indicating his hand. Jack raised an eyebrow. “Nothing important, I hope?” “Nah. Weevil, I think.” “I didn’t know we had Weevil blood samples.” “Oh yeah,” he nodded. Jack sighed and scratched the back of his neck. Something told him the doctor wasn’t telling him the truth. “You seen Ianto?” he asked. Owen shrugged. *~*~*~* Ianto was standing at the desk in the Tourist Office, wrapping a bandage haphazardly around his cut. He didn’t notice Jack enter until too late. “Yan?” Ianto whipped his hand off the table and into his pocket. “Yep?” he replied, smiling. Jack grinned back until his eyes landed on the first aid kit on the side of the desk. His face fell. “You want to tell me something?” he asked, nodding at the green box. Ianto swore under his breath and put the box away. Jack raised his eyebrow at the bandage. “Explain.” “It’s nothing. I was down in the Archives today and I cut my hand on an alien artefact,” he shrugged. “Didn’t Owen fix it up for you?” Jack enquired, leaning against the wall, arms crossed. Ianto sighed. He just wasn’t going to let this one go. “No, I did,” he muttered. “Jack, can’t you just let it go?” Jack pushed himself off the wall and walked towards Ianto. “Did Owen do this?” he asked, his voice barely above a whisper. Ianto looked at him, the ghost of a smile on his face. “Now why would Owen do something like that?” he said softly. Jack tilted his head slightly, his clear blue eyes searching Ianto’s face. “You’re not lying to me, are you Mr. Jones?” “Me?” Ianto smirked, “When have you ever known me to lie?” Jack took a step backwards, a crease in his forehead. He left the office without another word. *~*~*~* Owen watched the cog door roll back to reveal a very confused looking Jack. The light eyes of his boss met with his own dark ones briefly. Owen held his breath. Then Jack simply turned to Tosh and said, “Come one then, I didn’t hear the rest of your talk.” Owen blinked. The cog door opened for a second time and Ianto stepped out, playing with a badly-wrapped bandage. Gwen placed a hand on his arm and gave him a sympathetic smile, which he returned, before she wandered off. He sat down on the nearest chair and exhaled. Ianto looked up as the doctor loomed over him. Owen smiled slightly. “Here,” he murmured, reaching out for the Welshman’s hand. He undid the bandage, revealing a nasty wound that was still bleeding. Owen shut his eyes. “God, Yan, I’m sorry.” “Forget it,” he shrugged. Owen stretched across and grabbed a first aid kid. He cleaned the cut with an antiseptic wipe and re-bandaged it in silence. When he had finished Ianto stood up. “Thank you,” he said, smiled sadly. Owen nodded at him and packed away the first aid kit. Ianto started walking but then he stopped and turned back to Owen. “I really am sorry you know.” “Yeah... I know. Thanks.” | ||||
